Stainless: A Modern Romance
Todd Grimson
Originally published in the late 1990s, Todd Grimson's "Stainless" breaks fresh ground for the supernatural thriller genre by setting a vampire novel in contemporary Los Angeles, the pleasure dome of sex, drugs and rock n' roll culture, in which a 400 year-old female vampire, Justine, becomes entwined in a very human relationship with Keith, a down on his luck rock guitarist whose hands have recently been mangled by a gang of drug dealers. The relationship between the undead and the living is realistically and tragically portrayed; Justine nurtures Keith and helps him to restore his self-esteem, while Keith acts both as Justine's enabler and unwitting nemesis, and in this classic role reversal, ends up having to destroy the one he loves in order to save her.
Todd Grimson is the author of BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOR (Schaffner Press, 2011) and WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. A former student of Paul Bowles, Grimson has traveled widely in Europe, North Africa, and the United States. He now makes his home in Portland, Oregon and is at work on a new novel and story collection.
